A long, hot car ride to Galle

Broken AC, thirsty,

Withered and wilted until –

A stretch of beach -

So boldly beautiful…

So beguilingly beckoning…

Imagine -

Standing spellbound,

Fatigue fading away like a fever dream,

Soul and senses rising-

In quiet rapture

At the radiance surrounding.

Back in the car,

Still rapture-dazed,

A promise made

To go back – someday.

The beach

Astonishingly better

Second time around-

A breakfast picnic

On the sun warmed sands.

Emptiness, solitude, space -

Married with

Breathtaking, bold beauty-

gave birth to something

quietly glorious.

We walked,

Climbed a little rock,

Looked anew and marvelled

At how others, like us,

Were drawn here.

Wordlessly.

Driving away.

Away from Eden.

Thinking of Wordsworth

And his Daffodils-

The beauty of the beach

At Balapitiya

Lingers…

A solace.

A blessing.

From the Island's heat and hush, until the next letter,
